IT Help Desk

The IT Help Desk meets the technology needs of students, faculty, and staff by providing assistance with connecting to and using the various Utah Tech University systems, including myUT, Banner, Canvas, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and our wireless network, among others.

Computers and technology are a part of today’s learning environment and workplaces.  Students need support to succeed in the evolving digital world and the ever changing technology requirements placed upon them.  The IT Help Desk provides that support to help them navigate and successfully use Utah Tech’s systems to be successful in their educational pursuits.

We provide technical support for students, faculty, and staff for personal computers (University ID required). We service both Apple and Windows devices. If you need assistance with a University-owned device, please contact IT Support at ext. 8324.
 
Repair Cost: $30 an hour (plus sales tax).  If the repair is completed within the first half hour, there is no charge. 
 

Technical Services

We provide professional support for personal Apple and Windows devices, including software, operating systems, and hardware-related services.
Please Note: At this time, we are unable to perform hardware repairs on Apple devices. Software support for Apple devices remains available.
  • Software Installation and Troubleshooting: Installation, configuration, and resolution of software performance or compatibility issues.
  • Operating System Services: Operating system upgrades, recovery, and clean installations when necessary. Data backup prior to reinstallation is strongly recommended.
  • Virus and Malware Removal: Detection and removal of viruses and other malicious software. If removal is not possible, a clean system installation may be advised.
  • System Optimization: Performance improvement through startup management, software cleanup, and system configuration adjustments.
  • Hardware Installation and Diagnostics: Compatibility evaluation and installation of user-replaceable components such as RAM, SSDs, etc. Hardware diagnostics and identification of replacement parts are available; however, we do not order parts on behalf of customers.

Data Services

We assist with protecting, transferring, and recovering personal data. Recovery outcomes depend on the condition of the storage device.
  • Data Backup: Backup of files to external media or approved cloud storage services.
  • Data Transfer and Migration: Transfer of documents, media, and user data between devices, including migration to a new computer.
  • Data Recovery: Attempted recovery of data from malfunctioning or inaccessible storage devices. Severe hardware failures may require referral to a specialized recovery provider.
