Secondary Education Licensure
Licensure Requirements
The Utah Tech Secondary Education Licensure program MUST be paired with a bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in a Utah State Office of Education approved content area. Students who have already completed an acceptable BA/BS degree may complete the courses required for secondary licensure only. The following degrees offered at Utah Tech include secondary education licensure:
- Art with Art Education Emphasis, Secondary Education (BS)
- Biology, Secondary Education (BS)
- English with English Education Emphasis (BA/BS)
- History/Social Science Composite Teaching Emphasis (BA/BS)
- Mathematics Education, Secondary Education (BA/BS)
- Music Education (BME)
- Theatre with Emphasis in Theatre Education (BA/BS)
In addition, a student receiving any of the teaching degrees listed above may choose to also complete a teaching minor:
- Minor in Biology Education Program
- Minor in English Education Program
- Minor in Mathematics Education Program
Prerequisites
For complete admission procedures see the Department of Education catalog page and department website. To be admitted to the program and enroll in Professional courses USBE R277-504-3 A(3) “requires candidates to maintain a cumulative university GPA of 3.0, and receive a C or better in all education related courses and major required content courses", and students must pass the appropriate PRAXIS II content area subject test(s). In addition, one of the following must be completed:
- Students with BA/BS degrees in progress must have completed at least 95% of major coursework and have approval of major academic content area department advisor
- Students with completed BA/BS or higher degrees must have their transcripts reviewed by the content area department advisor

Completion Requirement
- 3.0 cumulative university GPA required.
Licensure Requirement
- Students are required to pass the PRAXIS II in appropriate subject
- Students are required to pass the PRAXIS Performance Assessment for Teachers (PPAT)
