Marriage and Family Therapy, MS
Program Description
The Marriage and Family Therapy Master's Program is to prepare competent and ethical mental health professionals dedicated to improving the human condition through both prevention and intervention. As such, this degree will provide necessary experience to prepare students for licensure as Marriage and Family Therapists, with the curriculum providing extensive opportunities through clinical practicum courses to develop their skills in practical environments. Program faculty emphasize a multilevel, systemic perspective that includes individual internal relationship processes and reflects cultural meanings, constraints, and global complexity, with a particular focus on working with children.
Professional Licensure/Certification (PLC) Requirements
The curriculum for programs at Utah Tech University leading to professional licensure are designed to prepare students for Utah licensure and certification requirements. Admission into programs for professions requiring licensure and certification does not guarantee that students will obtain a license or certificate. Licensure and certification requirements are set by agencies that are not controlled by or affiliated with the University, and licensure and certification requirements can change at any time.
Licensure boards in each state establish requirements for licensure and certification for their respective state. States vary by which professions are required to be licensed and how licensure functions, and such requirements may change at any time. The terms related to licensure and certification, among others, also vary by state as well.
Students and prospective students are strongly encouraged to contact the state licensure entity in the state where they intend to work to review all licensure and certification requirements imposed by the student’s state(s) of choice. The University cannot provide verification of a student’s ability to meet licensure or certification requirements unrelated to its educational programming. Some states require individuals to complete additional requirements that are unrelated to educational prerequisites. Admission Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Family & Consumer Science, Human Development, or other closely-related field
- Completion of the following coursework: Introduction to Psychology/General Psychology, Lifespan Development (or equivalent), and Abnormal Psychology
- GRE or MAT score at or about the 40th percentile
- 3.0 or higher GPA on last 60 semester or 90 quarter credits
- Transcripts of all college/university credits
- Three (3) letters of recommendation
- Completion of interview process

Graduation Requirements
- Completion of 51 approved credits, including an additional 6 credit hours of thesis preparation.
- GPA of 3.2 or higher.
- Application for graduation by dates posted.
- Final approval for graduation through the Graduate Council.
