RRT-to-BSRT, Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy
Program Description
This program is designed for graduates of an accredited entry-level respiratory therapy program with an AAS or AS with the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential. This program is entirely online, allowing students to complete an advanced degree while working, including personal and family commitments.
There are 22 core requirements and 9 electives in the RRT-to-BSRT curriculum. These courses can be taken in 3 consecutive semesters allowing the students to graduate in 1 year. Courses focus on leadership and management, research, education, advanced clinical skills, and disease management.
Utah Tech is currently in the process of seeking CoARC accreditation for a respiratory care program. However, Utah Tech can provide no assurance that accreditation will be granted by the CoARC.
Admission Requirements
To be considered for admission to the RRT-to-BSRT program, an applicant must first be accepted as a Utah Tech University student. Then, the applicant must complete a separate application to the RRT-to-BSRT program.
Admission to the RRT-to-BSRT program is based upon academic performance in both general education and specific program prerequisite courses in addition to other selection criteria, including:
- Submission of a complete Program Application
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Completion with a "C" or better of specified program prerequisite courses
Students are admitted into the RRT-to-BSRT program without discrimination with respect to gender, age, creed, ethnic origin, or marital status. Space in the program is limited: therefore, admission will be competitive, based on an objective point system that has been developed to predict student success. Points will be calculated and weighted from the admission criteria including the following: overall college GPA and program essay. We admit up to 30 students each spring and fall.
Before applying for the program, individuals should give careful consideration to the mental and physical demands of the program and the pressures involved in undertaking the responsibilities of being a full-time RRT-to-BSRT student.

Graduation Requirements
University Requirements
- Complete a minimum of 120 college-level credits (1000 and above)
- Complete at least 40 upper-division credits (3000 and above)
- Complete at least 30 upper-division credits at UT for institutional residency
Program Graduation Requirements
- Complete all university requirements
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Grade C or higher in each discipline core requirement and professional course (RESP, HLTH)
- Maintain and demonstrate competence in all psychomotor skills required throughout the curriculum
- Demonstrate compliance with ethical standards of the program and the university
